Our soaps are made in small batches using natural plant oils, nourishing butters, pure essential oils and botanical ingredients. Depending on the bar, you may also find natural clays, activated charcoal, flowers, herbs, seeds, honey, milk or oats.

We don’t use synthetic colourings or fragrances. Each soap is made using the traditional cold process method, allowing the natural qualities of the oils and butters to shine through. Our bars are then cured for 4–6 weeks before they’re ready for their first wash.

A well-cared-for bar of Beyond the Ferns soap can last for several weeks of regular use. Because our soaps are handmade using the traditional cold process method and cured for 4–6 weeks, they develop a lovely hard, long-lasting bar and creamy lather.

The best way to extend the life of your soap is to keep it dry between uses. Place it on a well-drained soap dish where air can circulate, rather than leaving it sitting in water. You can also cut a larger bar in half and keep the second half dry until needed.

Tip: The longer your soap stays dry between washes, the longer it will last.

Not all of our soaps are vegan.

Many of our bars are made using plant-based oils, butters and botanicals, but some contain honey.

The following soaps are not vegan because they contain honey:

Beyond the Ferns soaps are cruelty-free and are not tested on animals.

Our soaps are handmade in Ireland using plant-based oils, butters, botanicals and other carefully selected ingredients. As cosmetics made and sold within the EU, our products are covered by strict EU cosmetics regulations, which prohibit animal testing of finished cosmetic products and cosmetic ingredients for cosmetics purposes.

We’re proud to make gentle, naturally inspired soaps without animal testing.

Seeing the word “sodium” in a natural soap ingredient list can sound a little confusing, but it doesn’t mean that synthetic or harsh ingredients have been added.

In traditional cold process soap, sodium hydroxide (also known as lye) is used to turn oils and butters into soap. This process is called saponification.

The important part is that the sodium hydroxide is used up during the soap-making process and is no longer present as lye in the finished, properly cured bar. What remains is the lovely natural soap made from the oils and butters.

It is completely normal to see sodium-related ingredients listed on a natural bar of soap. The ingredient name reflects the soap-making process - cold process soap!

You may notice that our handmade soaps cost a little more than some commercial soaps, and there’s a good reason for that.

Our soaps are handmade in small batches in Ireland, using carefully selected oils, butters, botanicals, clays and other natural ingredients. Each bar is made using the traditional cold process method, then allowed to cure naturally for 4–6 weeks before it’s ready to use.

Unlike mass-produced commercial soaps, there’s no large-scale factory production behind our bars. Each batch involves time, care and plenty of hands-on work from weighing and mixing the ingredients to cutting, curing, wrapping and preparing every bar for you.

We also choose quality ingredients and make our soaps in small batches rather than producing them on an industrial scale.

So while a handmade natural soap may cost a little more, you’re paying for quality ingredients, time, craftsmanship and a genuinely handmade product - as well as supporting a small Irish business.

In short: it’s not just a bar of soap; it’s handmade with care.
